Sapa is a top destination for Vietnam Motorbike Tours, known for its stunning mountain scenery, lush terraced fields, quaint villages, and the majestic Fansipan peaks. Fansipan, in particular, steals the spotlight. As Vietnam's highest mountain, it sits just 19 km from Sapa town. Despite the short distance, the journey is challenging due to rugged terrain and unpredictable weather.

The Hoang Lien mountain range, home to Fansipan, is renowned as the highest peaks in northwestern Vietnam, formed around 100 million years ago. The name "Fansipan" is derived from the local pronunciation "Hua Hua Xi Pan," meaning "giant rock." Standing at 3,143m, it was dubbed the "roof of Indochina" by the French during their 1905 expedition to Vietnam. However, the French milestone marking its height has faded over time due to the passage of countless footsteps during years of war.

The Fansipan ecosystem is incredibly diverse, boasting over 2,024 types of flowers, 327 animal species, and varied terrain. Notably, Muong Hoa Valley, nestled at the mountain's eastern base at altitudes of 950-1,000m, is a highlight. In the past, few ventured to climb Fansipan Mountain due to its formidable reputation.
