Awakening to the enchanting vista from our homestay, we're greeted by the refreshing coolness and gentle mist carried by the breeze. It's advisable for travelers to rise early to immerse themselves in the atmospheric fog of the mountainous region. Following a hearty breakfast in Phu Yen, we prepare our belongings for Day 2's journey. As we venture into Yen Bai's Mu Cang Chai district, we're greeted by a panorama of mountain ranges, rolling hills, and expansive rice terraces.
Covering 180km over a span of 4 hours, the route presents both challenges and captivating scenery. Along the way, travelers are treated to sights of traditional Thai stilt houses, glistening golden rice fields in Muong Lo, picturesque flower valleys, meandering roads, and steep inclines. After a satisfying lunch, we ascend the mist-shrouded Qua Khau Pha Pass, where the palpable change in elevation marks our journey to the summit.
Below, the rice terraces sprawl magnificently amidst towering mountain peaks and lush forests, painting a breathtaking landscape of northwest Vietnam. Standing atop the mountain, gazing out over the expanse of rice fields, one comprehends why this terrain is treasured and revered. During the ripe rice season, these areas transform into a "golden sea," enveloping Mu Cang Chai's mountainous contours. As the day concludes with exhilarating drives, indelible experiences, and awe-inspiring vistas, we retreat to our hotel, indulging in a dinner showcasing the province's culinary delights and engaging in lively entertainment.
